The new Oshawa Centre celebrates its grand opening today

Following a $230 million investment, Oshawa Centre unveils its new LEED® certified spaces

Oshawa, Ontario, September 29, 2016 – Today and throughout the weekend, Oshawa Centre celebrates the completion of its highly anticipated $230 million expansion and redevelopment. The grand opening was attended this morning by a large number shoppers and dignitaries including Oshawa Mayor John Henry. Visitors enjoyed live entertainment, acrobats, giveaways and more.

“This is a very special day and we are excited to share it with the community,” said Claude Sirois, President, Retail, Ivanhoé Cambridge. “With an exciting new retail mix and dining options, the new Oshawa Centre provides an enriched shopping experience for the Durham Region, as well as for all our visitors from Toronto.”

Highlights of the expansion include:

  • 375,000 ft2 (34,839 m2) of redeveloped retail space, including an expansion of 260,000  ft2 (24,155 m2);
  • 60 new brands;
  • A new 1,000-seat sophisticated food court and two new full-service restaurants: Kelsey’s (opened in August 2016) and Baxter’s Landing (December 2016);
  • A 153 m-long “living wall” which provides a landscaping screen to the parking area;
  • Two new electric vehicle charging stations;
  • A 260,000 ft2 (24,155 m2) white roof (painted with solar-reflective white coating) that reduces air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions;
  • Improved recycling facilities;
  • 250 underground parking spaces;
  • New upgraded common-area elements, such as floor and ceiling treatments and comfortable seating;
  • LEED® Canada Core and Shell certification.
