WEB ACCESSIBILITY

APPROACH

Diversity is a part of our organization’s values. We are committed to creating an inclusive environment that accommodates all individuals, including those with disabilities and elderly people. We are currently working on the compliance of our website with the Standard on Web Accessibility (SGQRI 008-01) adopted by the Treasury Board of Quebec and with the World Wide Web Consortium Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.0) as required by the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 (the “AODA”).1

MEASURES PUT IN PLACE

Several rules have been put in place to ensure the site’s compliance:

  • Page titles describe page content
  • Navigation and access to all functions are possible from the keyboard
  • The navigation and presentation mechanisms are consistent from page to page
  • Content of each page is accessible via a direct link
  • Section titles show a consistent hierarchical structure
  • Text is written in plain language
  • Text is provided to describe non-text content
  • Links are labelled to facilitate navigation
  • Text can be resized to 200% without losing readability
  • Colour combinations promote better readability
  • Tables are simplified and correctly tagged
  • Language changes are correctly tagged
  • Content can be accessed in a variety of ways: menus, search engine and sitemap
  • Changing the focus or input field does not change the context
  • Colour is not used as the only way to convey information

TOOLS USED TO CHECK COMPLIANCE

Accessibility was validated using the following software:

  • ChromeVox Classic Extension (version 53.0.2784.6) on Chrome 86
  • axe – Web Accessibility Testing (version 4.6.1) on Chrome 86
  • Contrast Checker on WebAIM
  • WAVE Evaluation Tool (version 3.1.2) on Chrome 86
  • Chrome Inspector on Chrome 86

ONGOING ELEMENTS OF COMPLIANCE

As part of continuous improvement, although accessibility is at the heart of our efforts, some of the site’s sections have yet to offer full compliance. A project addressing this outstanding work is underway.
