Maison Manuvie certified LEED® Gold

Maison Manuvie provides spaces focused on sustainability, efficiency and well-being.

Maison Manuvie, a 27-storey AAA building in downtown Montreal, has received LEED® Gold certification under the Core & Shell (CS) rating system by the Canada Green Building Council. Designed by the Montreal architectural firm Menkès Shooner Dagenais LeTourneux and owned by Ivanhoé Cambridge and Manulife, the building stands out for its timeless architecture and focus on sustainable development.

“We are pleased to achieve LEED® certification for Maison Manuvie, a symbol of our commitment to providing spaces focused on sustainability, efficiency and well-being,” said Bernard Poliquin, Senior Vice President, Office, Quebec at Ivanhoé Cambridge. “As a responsible property manager, Ivanhoé Cambridge was fully committed to selecting the best partners, using innovative and sustainable materials, while contributing to well-being throughout the Maison Manuvie development process – from design to construction.”

“We prioritized health and wellness when we designed Maison Manuvie,” said Stephen Nicoletti, Managing Director, Eastern Canada, Real Estate Asset Management, Manulife Real Estate. “At Manulife, our goal is to provide healthy and efficient workplaces that minimize the environmental impact of our operations. Maison Manuvie’s building features – from bike storage to easily accessible stairwells – encourage activity and support our employees’ wellbeing throughout their work day.”

Anik Shooner, Partner Architect and President at Menkès Shooner Dagenais LeTourneux Architects, added: “Buildings we design have an immediate and future effect on our environment. We are determined to reduce this environmental cost through a measurable improvement in buildings’ energy management, resource conservation and performance. Maison Manuvie is no exception! It was designed to meet the LEED® certification criteria while fostering the wellbeing, comfort and health of its users.”

The evaluation criteria for LEED® certification include energy efficiency and air quality, water management and consumption, the use of materials and re-use of surplus materials, the quality of interior spaces, and the ecological development of exterior sites. Environmental certifications, such as LEED®, are increasingly valued by building owners and managers as a tool to promote the value and quality of the building’s construction and management, in addition to capitalizing on the expectations of various stakeholders – from tenants to employees to business partners.
