Increasing our waste diversion
All of our managed properties are subject to an annual waste audit and have established targets to achieve in 2017.

We diverted from landfill 58.3% of waste generated.
Monitoring our greenhouse gas emissions
We have been gathering data on greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in our managed properties since 2012 to develop a solid understanding of our GHG performance. This will allow us to develop a carbon strategy related to the operations of our managed properties and work toward tangible results.
-5% GHG emissions for comparable properties since 2014
The utility portion of the GHG inventory is based on metered data for energy consumption (electricity, natural gas and steam) and includes all directly managed properties in North America and Europe (retail and office) as well as our business offices. To meet with standards, we report on emissions, as follows:
- Scope 1 – direct emissions occurring within the specified boundary
- Scope 2 – emissions associated with energy used within the boundary but generated elsewhere
- Scope 3 – emissions generated through other activities
