Two Leaders Join Forces
In 2001, after many years of excellent business relations, the two firms combined their operations to become a true driving force in the Canadian shopping centre industry with a strong nation-wide presence.

Ivanhoe Inc. had been founded in 1952 under the leadership of Sam Steinberg, a visionary entrepreneur who turned a single grocery store into a vast real estate empire of over 90 stores and 32 shopping centres. As for Cambridge Shopping Centres Ltd., it had been established in 1960 by the Tabachnik and Odette families. By the time of the merger, it had built an impressive portfolio of 42 Canadian shopping centres.

Since 2001, Ivanhoe Cambridge has expanded globally and geographically diversified its assets. Today, with a presence in North America, Europe, China and Latin America, the Company is better positioned than ever to contribute to the development of the shopping centre industry in various regions around the world and secure attractive returns on its investments.
