Sustainability
BOMA Québec awarded Go Green certification to the Laurier shopping centre in Quebec City in recognition of the centre’s sustained efforts to improve waste recycling, especially in the food court.
Sustainable development is a priority for Ivanhoe Cambridge.
In May 2008, employees embraced the Company’s Tremblant Promise, a formal commitment, issued in Mont-Tremblant, Quebec, to act as a good corporate citizen and take full responsibility for the impact of its activities.
Over the past years, the Company has progressively set up the ways and means to manage its properties and develop projects with a green mindset and to build awareness among its employees, suppliers, clients and partners.
As a member of the Canada Green Building Council, the Company encourages specific teams to obtain their LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) accredited professional designation or their BOMA BESt certification.
Recycling
All Ivanhoe Cambridge’s shopping centres have recycling programs in place. Every year, these initiatives help divert a considerable amount of recyclable material from landfill sites.
Green power
Ivanhoe Cambridge is one of the North American shopping centre industry’s biggest purchasers of green power. Since the early 2000s, several of its centres in Alberta and Ontario have adopted green energy solutions.
Energy efficiency
Ivanhoe Cambridge strives to attain higher energy efficiency standards through environmental building control systems, environmentally friendly lighting, efficient heating solutions and other initiatives.
Environmental compliance
Through its environmental management program, Ivanhoe Cambridge closely monitors environmental compliance in its shopping centres. It has also strengthened the language in its standard lease document which outlines tenants’ obligations with regard to environmental legislation.
